The state of the art building is the cornerstone of the vibrant new 'cultural quarter' planned by the Plymouth City Council and Plymouth University. It will provide extensive teaching facilities and provide a showcase for the original Plymouth Arts Centre, which is still to be found in 'Looe Street'.

It is perhaps at its most impressive at night time, when its state of the art lighting casts shadows and hues of bright colours over its many fine contours.

The university of Plymouth's new art facility building is a spectacular piece of architecture. The interesting diagonal lines are complimented by the use of unique and visually stunning materials. It blends majestically with some of the older finer buildings found in Drake Circus.
Within the building you can expect to find exhibitions halls and a cinema specializing in films inspired and relevant to the Arts. Plymouth always has had a strong connection to the Arts. From Sir Joshua Reynolds, the 18th Century portrait master, to the quirky Beryl Cook or eccentric Robert Lekiewicz.
Sir Joshua Reynolds .
The arts centre was to be named the Sir Joshua Reynolds centre, however it will now named after the university's former vice-chancellor, Roland Lewinsky who was sadly killed in a overhead power cable accident.
